I have a degree in Natural Sciences and I observe human beings and their behavior with curiosity, in the same way I do for animals: we are a particular kind of animals. I know that in nature, nothing happens by chance and behaviors judged irrational always have an explanation. We have to adapt to the environment in which we live in order to survive. Animals adapt themselves changing their bodies, humans have cultural adaptations, we answer to environmental stresses exploiting our intelligence in changing the environment itself. Over time and in different ways all over the world human beings codified rules of coexistence that allow to live together and once you came to the world, you have to adapt to such rules whether like them or not. Then there are the social conventions, traditions, religions, which have common characteristics, viewed from a female perspective: for centuries they serve to keep women in their place, or to put them in the places men found useful. These conventions, where possible, are rapidly changing but not for all the women and very often it is only appearance. Are women are really free?
EVERYTHING IS UNDER CONTROL
A girl should study, work, realize herself, become a good mother, a good wife, and if she wants some power she has to be the best. All these expectations are really compatible with a happy life? Women behaviors not aligned with what society expects from us, can still expect to be offended and isolated. In a near past (up to the seventies) the so-called "instincts" as the manifestation of women sexual desires, of anger and out of eccentric personalities, were often sedated in psychiatric centers using medications and tortures like methods. For a man having a full blooded nature and manifesting strong sexual appetites is and always has been, a source of pride. Now things have changed, in many places of the world we are more free to express and fulfill ourselves, follow our passions, create our lives outside of the approval of the society. But we continue to be heavily judged for our behavior, for not to be "good girls" and often the worst tyrants are the women themselves, grown in the image of a male-dominant society. Even those young feminist rebels who burned bras in the square, often followed raising their daughters in the way they wont be reject by normal people, teaching them the importance of a good behavior, of reaching a good marriage and have a life with no problems: if you have to break the rules do it on secret, be silent. Being a "hysterical little woman" is still one of the worst insult, if you like to have sex you are clearly nymphomaniac or a whore, not a good girl. Good girls are controlled, measured, are the dream of every man having done enough "experience", meaning that he had all the women he wanted. You have to keep everything under control, yourself, your reputation, your boyfriend (at least until marriage) to obtain what you want. What every woman should want. Then you can relax, and someone is still surprise after wedding transformation: women can lose control and be human.

Nature donated us a body not subject to the strict rules of a linear time marked by men's needs. As women we have our internal biological clock, regulated by a delicate balance of hormones which are shifting influencing our mood, physical appearance, sexual desire. A clock that measures time in cycles, synchronized with the moon and tries to keep his balance despite the stress, the thousand thoughts, the appearances to keep up, the little time that we dedicate to love ourselves.
Menstruation is the visible event that marks some steps in this chronology, but they are just a small part of a series of events affecting and changing the feminine body during the month. There are fertile days usually corresponding to an increasing desire to make love and calm moments less fertile. Many of us, not every woman of course, about a week before the menstruation, begin to be restless, nervous and events acquire a different meaning, more personal I would say. Sometimes I feel full of energy, powerful even from an athletic point of view, sometimes I'm just in a blue mood. This is the so called PMS, the premenstrual syndrome. Thinking scientifically to the adaptation to the environment in which we live, what is this body behavior useful for? As I said at the beginning, in nature nothing happens by chance.

Whenever we feel a discomfort, our body wants to tell us something, we have a physical or psychological problem. We can silence him taking drugs, painkillers, hormones or decide to listen to what it has to say. It might be a lack of nutrients such as magnesium. It could be the alarm bell that warns us of a difficulty, of what I call "the weak spot". In those days, for example, the most stressed part of my body starts hurting. A sudden neck pain, a knee starts hurting bad and all the symptoms usually magically disappear with the arrival of my period. Why? Maybe because for the rest of the month I ignored that body part and its warnings of excessive stress? So in the premenstrual period a mechanism of salvation connected to hormones tells us to slow down, change posture, stop running ... and with pain forces me do it, to notice myself. The same can be said for the psychological symptoms. If you suddenly become aggressive you can not even bear even the voice of our husband, getting mad for a single wrong world, something wrong was already there and you just did everything to ignore it, avoiding the problem and then with inhibitions erased by hormonal changes, is it so strange you exploded like a time bomb? If you feel like all the world is cruel and sadness kills you, maybe you were a little depressed from a lot of time and a few days before your period symptoms are exacerbated, simply showing you a red light: woman, something is wrong, stop and ask yourself what is it.
FREE YOURSELF
If women stopped inhibiting emotions and spontaneous reactions to look like good girls, would we cease to be abnormally sensitive in the days when the body refuses tight control? From personal experience, when I am quiet, not stressed out and I have time to take care of myself, premenstrual syndrome becomes a thing to smile about, a few days during which I eat a lot, I drink alcohol without getting drunk, I find an incredible creative power or sometimes just need to sleep double time. But this is me, is some of my friends, but every woman is different and will have its own characteristics "enlightened by hormones."
GET SYNCHRONIZED, BE HAPPY
The man who loves us and lives with us should recognize the evolution of our monthly cycle, which repeats itself as a ritual. Not to defend himself from our mood changes, we are not getting crazy nor we become other people. Premenstrual syndrome exists, but just exacerbates the hidden problems repressed during the rest of the month. We should give ourselves the opportunity to listen and to give to our companions the possibility to discover our wonderful world.
